Build a reaction into a motion graphic, add a meme to an explainer or use a GIF alongside animated text. Spotlight FX lets you search KLIPY and import GIFs directly into After Effects, with controls to adjust how they look and play.
FROM GIF SEARCH TO COMPOSITION
A GIF plugin for your After Effects workflow
Find your GIF, place it in the active composition and adjust it while you work on the rest of the scene. The recordings below demonstrate the controls in Premiere Pro; GIF importing and editing are also available in After Effects.
Find your source
Search GIFs from the After Effects panel
Need a reaction for an explainer or a reference to a familiar meme? Enter a name or phrase in Spotlight FX and preview the matching GIFs. You can also browse categories to find a different take on the same idea.
- KLIPY search in the panel
- Preview before importing
Add to composition
Import a GIF at the current time
Save your project, open the composition you want to work in and move the playhead to the right moment. Click Import on a GIF to add it there. There is no separate browser download to find and bring into the project.
- Uses the active composition
- Places the GIF at your playhead
Choose the visible area
Remove unwanted parts of the GIF
If the original GIF has more in the shot than your composition needs, crop it in the preview. Adjust the edges around the subject to leave more room for your text and graphics.
- Drag to adjust the crop
- Restore the original framing
Set the size
Size your GIF for the composition
Use Fit to keep the whole GIF visible or Fill to cover the frame. Adjust Zoom when you want a smaller GIF next to a heading or a closer view of the subject. Check the result against the other elements in your composition.
- Fit the whole GIF
- Fill the frame or adjust Zoom
Arrange the scene
Align GIFs with your composition layout
Center a GIF beneath a title or place it in a corner beside your graphics. The nine-position alignment control lets you choose its placement without repeatedly adjusting position values.
- Center, edge and corner alignment
- Position from one control
Control playback
Keep a GIF looping through your scene
When a GIF is shorter than the section of your composition it belongs in, increase its loop count. The length updates as you change the repetitions, so you can time it with a title animation or a voiceover segment.
- Set the number of repetitions
- Check the updated duration
Add motion
Fade or scale GIFs in After Effects
Apply Fade, Scale or the combined Fade + Scale style from the GIF controls. Set the timing and easing to suit your composition. Split In / Out lets you use different settings at the start and end.
- Three animation styles
- Adjust timing and easing
A simpler editing workflow
