Need to add a voiceover or a second music track to your edit? You’ll need an extra audio track for that. Luckily, Premiere Pro makes it easy to add more tracks whenever you need them. Here’s how to do it without messing up your timeline.

1. Right-click in the Timeline Area

First things first, head over to your timeline panel where all your clips are sitting.

  1. Right-click anywhere in the empty space on the left side of the timeline (where it says A1, A2, etc.)
  2. Choose Add Tracks... from the menu

This opens a small window where you can choose how many video or audio tracks you want to add. Or you can simply add only one track by clicking on "Add Track".

2. Choose How Many Tracks You Need

In the Add Tracks window:

  1. Under Audio Tracks, type how many new tracks you want
  2. Make sure Placement is set correctly (usually “After Last Track” works fine)
  3. Click OK

Boom, you’ve got new empty audio tracks ready to go.

3. Drag and Drop Your Audio Files

Now just drag your audio file from the Project panel into one of those new tracks.

You can also import new files by going to:

  1. File > Import
  2. Or just press Ctrl+I (Windows) or Cmd+I (Mac)

Once imported, drag them onto any empty audio track and line them up however you like.
